How do I convert PNG to JFIF without losing image quality?

For lossless JFIF (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy JFIF (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. PNG uses DEFLATE compression over filtered scanlines, so every pixel survives exactly, plus a full 8-bit alpha channel. The image data is ordinary JPEG; JFIF just defines the density and thumbnail fields around it, so a .jfif and a .jpg are the same picture.
How much quality will I lose going from PNG to JFIF?

At quality 80-85 the difference is invisible at normal viewing distance and the file typically drops by 60-80%. The catch is that it is one-way: re-saving the JFIF repeatedly compounds the artefacts each time. Keep the PNG as the master and regenerate the JFIF from it whenever you need a new size. PNG is the right choice for screenshots, logos, line art and anything with hard edges or transparency — no ringing, no colour banding.
Does PNG to JFIF conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when JFIF is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware JFIF instead of JFIF=JPG. JFIF is the JPEG File Interchange Format — the header specification that makes a raw JPEG bitstream into a portable file.
What about EXIF metadata when converting PNG to JFIF?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the JFIF. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert many PNG files to JFIF at once?

What resolution will my JFIF file have?

Default is 1:1 — your JFIF keeps the pixel dimensions of the source PNG. If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize-image/ after conversion, or chain it with the /image-resize/ utility.
Are my PNG files private during conversion?

Why is my converted JFIF bigger or smaller than I expected?

A PNG with strong existing compression (lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to lossless JFIF (PNG, TIFF). A lossless PNG often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content — photos compress differently from line art. PNG is a poor photograph format: a photo saved as PNG is routinely five to ten times larger than the same image as JPG or WebP. The .jfif extension confuses Windows and many web apps into refusing the file, which is usually the only reason anyone converts it.
