PNG to BMP Transformation FAQ

How do I convert PNG to BMP without losing image quality?
+
Upload your PNG file and the converter applies format-aware quality optimization for BMP. For lossless BMP (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy BMP (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. PNG uses DEFLATE compression over filtered scanlines, so every pixel survives exactly, plus a full 8-bit alpha channel. BMP usually stores completely uncompressed pixel rows with a small header, which is why it is so simple to parse.
Transparency survives when BMP is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware BMP instead of BMP=JPG. BMP is the Windows Bitmap, the raw raster format built into Windows since 1985.
In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the BMP. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
Default is 1:1 — your BMP keeps the pixel dimensions of the source PNG. If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize-image/ after conversion, or chain it with the /image-resize/ utility.
Yes. Uploaded PNG files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted BMP are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
A PNG with strong existing compression (lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to lossless BMP (PNG, TIFF). A lossless PNG often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content — photos compress differently from line art. PNG is a poor photograph format: a photo saved as PNG is routinely five to ten times larger than the same image as JPG or WebP. BMP is gigantic — a 12-megapixel photo is around 36 MB — and no browser treats it as a sane web format.
Yes. The conversion is a format change — copyright on the image content stays with you (or whoever held it on the source PNG). We add no watermark, no metadata stamp, and claim no licence over the BMP output.

PNG

PNG files accommodate transparency and use lossless compression, making them ideal for graphics, logos, and screenshots.

BMP

BMP files store images in uncompressed bitmap format, resulting in large file sizes but perfect integrity.
