JFIF to JPEG Transformation FAQ

How do I convert JFIF to JPEG without losing image quality?
+
Upload your JFIF file and the converter applies format-aware quality optimization for JPEG. For lossless JPEG (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy JPEG (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. The image data is ordinary JPEG; JFIF just defines the density and thumbnail fields around it, so a .jfif and a .jpg are the same picture. The bitstream is identical to a .jpg: DCT-based lossy compression, usually with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, wrapped in a JFIF or Exif header.
Transparency survives when JPEG is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware JPEG instead of JPEG=JPG. JPEG is the same standard as JPG and JFIF — the four-letter extension is the original, and the three-letter one exists only because of the DOS 8.3 filename limit.
In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the JPEG. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
Default is 1:1 — your JPEG keeps the pixel dimensions of the source JFIF. If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize-image/ after conversion, or chain it with the /image-resize/ utility.
Yes. Uploaded JFIF files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted JPEG are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
A JFIF with strong existing compression (lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to lossless JPEG (PNG, TIFF). A lossless JFIF often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content — photos compress differently from line art. The .jfif extension confuses Windows and many web apps into refusing the file, which is usually the only reason anyone converts it. JPEG shares every JPG limitation — no alpha, generational loss on re-save — with the added nuisance of software that treats the two extensions differently.
Yes. The conversion is a format change — copyright on the image content stays with you (or whoever held it on the source JFIF). We add no watermark, no metadata stamp, and claim no licence over the JPEG output.

JFIF

JFIF is the interchange wrapper around baseline JPEG data, so a JFIF file is a JPEG under a different extension.

JPEG

JPEG uses lossy compression optimized for photographs, balancing integrity and file size.
