How do I convert JFIF to WebP without losing image quality?

Upload your JFIF file and the converter applies format-aware quality optimization for WebP. For lossless WebP (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy WebP (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. The image data is ordinary JPEG; JFIF just defines the density and thumbnail fields around it, so a .jfif and a .jpg are the same picture. WebP offers both lossy and lossless modes, with alpha transparency and animation available in either.
Can I get transparency once the image is WebP?

The WebP format supports it, but the conversion cannot invent it. A JFIF has no alpha channel, so every pixel including the background arrives fully opaque. Run /image-removebackground/ afterwards to cut the subject out — then the alpha channel WebP provides has something to store. WebP is typically 25-35% smaller than an equivalent JPG and far smaller than an animated GIF, with universal browser support since 2020.
Does JFIF to WebP conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when WebP is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware WebP instead of WebP=JPG. WebP is Google’s 2010 image format, built from the VP8 keyframe encoder and intended to replace JPG, PNG and GIF at once.
What about EXIF metadata when converting JFIF to WebP?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the WebP. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert many JFIF files to WebP at once?

What resolution will my WebP file have?

Default is 1:1 — your WebP keeps the pixel dimensions of the source JFIF. If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize-image/ after conversion, or chain it with the /image-resize/ utility.
Are my JFIF files private during conversion?

Yes. Uploaded JFIF files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted WebP are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Why is my converted WebP bigger or smaller than I expected?

A JFIF with strong existing compression (lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to lossless WebP (PNG, TIFF). A lossless JFIF often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content — photos compress differently from line art. The .jfif extension confuses Windows and many web apps into refusing the file, which is usually the only reason anyone converts it. WebP is still second-class outside the browser — print workflows, older Office builds and some phone galleries do not accept it.
