JFIF to PNG Transformation FAQ
How do I convert JFIF to PNG without losing image quality?
+
Upload your JFIF file and the converter applies format-aware quality optimization for PNG. For lossless PNG (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy PNG (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. The image data is ordinary JPEG; JFIF just defines the density and thumbnail fields around it, so a .jfif and a .jpg are the same picture. PNG uses DEFLATE compression over filtered scanlines, so every pixel survives exactly, plus a full 8-bit alpha channel.
Can I get transparency once the image is PNG?
+
The PNG format supports it, but the conversion cannot invent it. A JFIF has no alpha channel, so every pixel including the background arrives fully opaque. Run /image-removebackground/ afterwards to cut the subject out — then the alpha channel PNG provides has something to store. PNG is the right choice for screenshots, logos, line art and anything with hard edges or transparency — no ringing, no colour banding.
Does converting JFIF to PNG restore the quality that was lost?
+
No. The compression artefacts already baked into the JFIF are ordinary pixel data now, and PNG preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. The .jfif extension confuses Windows and many web apps into refusing the file, which is usually the only reason anyone converts it.
Does JFIF to PNG conversion preserve transparency?
+
Transparency survives when PNG is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware PNG instead of PNG=JPG. PNG was designed in 1996 as a patent-free replacement for GIF, and became the web’s default lossless image format.
What about EXIF metadata when converting JFIF to PNG?
+
In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the PNG. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert many JFIF files to PNG at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
What resolution will my PNG file have?
+
Default is 1:1 — your PNG keeps the pixel dimensions of the source JFIF. If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize-image/ after conversion, or chain it with the /image-resize/ utility.
Are my JFIF files private during conversion?
+
Yes. Uploaded JFIF files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted PNG are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
