How do I extract frames from an MKV video as BMP images?

Upload the MKV and open the options. Frame Extraction has two modes: Single Frame saves one BMP from the second you enter (for example 1, 5 or 10.5), and All Frames saves every frame of the video as a BMP image. There is no every-Nth-frame or one-per-second mode. HDR footage is not tone-mapped: each frame is converted from the MKV as it is decoded, so a frame from an HDR MKV can look flat or washed out as a BMP. Standard (SDR) video keeps its colours.
What is the file size of one extracted BMP frame?

Depends on resolution and BMP codec. A 1080p PNG frame is typically 2 to 5 MB; a 1080p JPG at quality-85 is 200 to 500 KB; a 4K PNG is 6 to 15 MB. It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame.

Almost always motion blur baked into the MKV source — the camera or subject was moving when the frame was captured. Pick timestamps from static scenes, or extract adjacent frames and choose the sharpest. The pipeline does not synthesize detail that was not there.
