How do I convert JPG to PNG without losing image quality?

Upload your JPG file and the converter applies format-aware quality optimization for PNG. For lossless PNG (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy PNG (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. JPG is lossy: the image is transformed with a DCT, quantised, and entropy-coded, with a quality knob controlling how much is discarded. PNG uses DEFLATE compression over filtered scanlines, so every pixel survives exactly, plus a full 8-bit alpha channel.
Can I get transparency once the image is PNG?

The PNG format supports it, but the conversion cannot invent it. A JPG has no alpha channel, so every pixel including the background arrives fully opaque. Run /image-removebackground/ afterwards to cut the subject out — then the alpha channel PNG provides has something to store. PNG is the right choice for screenshots, logos, line art and anything with hard edges or transparency — no ringing, no colour banding.
Does converting JPG to PNG restore the quality that was lost?

No. The compression artefacts already baked into the JPG are ordinary pixel data now, and PNG preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. JPG has no transparency, degrades further every time it is re-saved, and produces visible blocking on flat colour and sharp text.
Will my CMYK colour survive the conversion to PNG?

It is converted to sRGB, because PNG has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original JPG rather than the PNG. PNG is a poor photograph format: a photo saved as PNG is routinely five to ten times larger than the same image as JPG or WebP.
Does the PNG keep the EXIF data from my JPG?

By default yes, wherever the target has somewhere to put it — camera model, exposure settings, lens and GPS coordinates all carry across. GPS is the field worth thinking about: if the image is going to be published, use the strip-metadata option so you are not broadcasting where the photo was taken. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.
Does JPG to PNG conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when PNG is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware PNG instead of PNG=JPG. PNG was designed in 1996 as a patent-free replacement for GIF, and became the web’s default lossless image format.
Will my color profile (sRGB / Adobe RGB / CMYK) survive JPG to PNG?
