Is the resulting PDF searchable with real selectable text?

Yes when the JPG contains real text (DOCX, ODT, HTML, TXT, EPUB). Image-based JPG produces an image-only PDF; run /pdf-ocr/ afterward to make it text-searchable via optical character recognition. JPG is lossy: the image is transformed with a DCT, quantised, and entropy-coded, with a quality knob controlling how much is discarded. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.
What if the source is a scan with no real text in it?

Then the conversion produces a picture of the text rather than the text itself, and searching it finds nothing. Run /pdf-ocr/ to add a recognised text layer first; optical character recognition turns the scanned pixels into selectable, searchable characters that the conversion can then carry through properly.
Is the PDF side of this conversion searchable?

It depends entirely on whether real text is present. A PDF generated from a document carries an actual text layer and is searchable; a PDF built from scans or images is a picture of text and is not, until OCR adds a layer. /pdf-ocr/ does that, and it is worth running before any conversion that expects to read the words.
Can I password-protect the PDF after conversion?

Not in this tool directly — convert JPG to PDF first, then use the /pdf-* tools to add a password, watermark, or restrict editing / printing permissions on the output.
Is my JPG file private during PDF conversion?

Yes. Uploaded JPG files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted PDF are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
