How do I convert PSD to BMP without losing image quality?

A PSD preserves layers, masks, blend modes, smart objects, adjustment layers and editable text as separate live elements. BMP usually stores completely uncompressed pixel rows with a small header, which is why it is so simple to parse.

What happens to the layers in my PSD file?

They are flattened, permanently, into one composited image. Blend modes, masks, adjustment layers and editable text are all resolved into final pixels because BMP has no structure to hold them. Keep the PSD as the working master and treat the BMP strictly as an export. PSD keeps every editing decision reversible, which is why it is the master format for design work that will be revised. BMP is gigantic — a 12-megapixel photo is around 36 MB — and no browser treats it as a sane web format.

Will my CMYK colour survive the conversion to BMP?

It is converted to sRGB, because BMP has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original PSD rather than the BMP.

Does PSD to BMP conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when BMP is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware BMP instead of BMP=JPG. BMP is the Windows Bitmap, the raw raster format built into Windows since 1985.

What about EXIF metadata when converting PSD to BMP?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the BMP. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.

Can I batch-convert many PSD files to BMP at once?

What resolution will my BMP file have?
