How do I extract frames from a DivX video as PNG images?

Upload the DivX and the converter exposes a frame-extraction picker: every Nth frame, frames at specific timestamps, or one frame per second. Each chosen frame is encoded as an individual PNG file and the full set is bundled into a ZIP archive for download. DivX names a codec rather than a container — an MPEG-4 Part 2 implementation that made ripping a DVD to a single CD possible around 1999. PNG was designed in 1996 as a patent-free replacement for GIF, and became the web’s default lossless image format.
Why do my extracted frames have horizontal lines through them?

Because the source is interlaced. DivX content from the broadcast and DVD era stores two half-height fields per frame, captured a fiftieth of a second apart, and a still pulled straight out shows both woven together as combing on anything that moved. Enable deinterlacing before extraction and each still is built from a single reconstructed progressive frame.
Can I get the PNG frames without the subtitles?

Only if the DivX never had them burned in, because DivX has no selectable subtitle stream to switch off. Anything a DivX shows on screen is in the picture itself, so it is in every PNG the extraction produces and no setting removes it afterwards. Where a separate subtitle file exists alongside the video, extract from a source that kept the two apart and the frames come out clean. DivX needs roughly twice the bitrate of H.264 for the same quality and has no path to HDR, 10-bit colour or resolutions beyond 1080p.
Does the PNG output support transparency?

The format does, but the source has no alpha to give it — video frames and rendered pages are fully opaque by nature, so every pixel arrives solid. The alpha channel is still useful afterwards: it means you can cut a subject out of the PNG later without changing format again. PNG is the right choice for screenshots, logos, line art and anything with hard edges or transparency — no ringing, no colour banding.
How big will the PNG files be?

Larger than you might expect, because PNG keeps every pixel exactly rather than approximating. A 1080p still lands around 2-5 MB and a 4K still around 6-15 MB, so a long extraction run adds up quickly. That is the right trade when the images feed further processing, and the wrong one when they are going straight onto a web page. PNG uses DEFLATE compression over filtered scanlines, so every pixel survives exactly, plus a full 8-bit alpha channel.
Will a very large DivX file upload successfully?

Free accounts cap at 100 MB per file, and DivX sources run large because the format carries substantial per-chunk overhead on top of the video data. Premium lifts the cap considerably. If the file is split into numbered parts because of the format ceiling, upload them together and they are treated as one job.
At what resolution does each extracted PNG frame come out?

The same resolution as the DivX video — a 1080p DivX produces 1920×1080 PNG frames; a 4K DivX produces 3840×2160 PNG frames. Use the resize utility after extraction if you want smaller thumbnails or social-media-sized crops.
Can I extract every single frame from DivX as PNG?

Yes, but be careful with file count — a 30fps 1-minute DivX produces 1,800 PNG frames. We pack them into a ZIP automatically. For longer clips, the "1 per second" option (60 frames) or specific timestamps gives a manageable result.
Will the extracted PNG images preserve the DivX color grading?

Yes — colour is decoded with the matrix the source DivX uses (BT.709 for HD, BT.2020 for 4K HDR). HDR sources are tone-mapped to SDR on extraction to PNG because most PNG formats (PNG, JPG) cannot store HDR pixel ranges natively.
What is the file size of one extracted PNG frame?

Depends on resolution and PNG codec. A 1080p PNG frame is typically 2 to 5 MB; a 1080p JPG at quality-85 is 200 to 500 KB; a 4K PNG is 6 to 15 MB. At the extreme, every-frame PNG extraction of a 10-minute 1080p DivX produces ~50 GB total.
Does the extracted PNG retain EXIF camera metadata?

The DivX container does not store per-frame EXIF the way a still camera does, so the PNG files come out with empty EXIF. We embed a `creation_time` field pointing at the source frame timestamp so you can re-sort the bundle by capture order.
How long does frame extraction from DivX to PNG take?

Frame extraction is fast — typically 20 to 30% of source duration on the standard pipeline. A 5-minute DivX → PNG bundle finishes in about a minute regardless of frame count, because the bottleneck is the PNG encoder, not the DivX demuxer.
