TIFF to GIF Transformation FAQ
How do I convert TIFF to GIF without losing image quality?
+
Upload your TIFF file and the converter applies format-aware quality optimization for GIF. For lossless GIF (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy GIF (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. TIFF is a container more than a codec: it can hold uncompressed, LZW, ZIP or even JPEG data, at up to 32 bits per channel, with multiple pages in one file. GIF is lossless but capped at a 256-colour palette per frame, using LZW compression and single-colour binary transparency.
What happens to the layers in my TIFF file?
+
They are flattened, permanently, into one composited image. Blend modes, masks, adjustment layers and editable text are all resolved into final pixels because GIF has no structure to hold them. Keep the TIFF as the working master and treat the GIF strictly as an export. TIFF handles CMYK, 16-bit depth, embedded ICC profiles and multi-page documents, which is exactly what print and archival workflows require. GIF’s 256-colour ceiling wrecks gradients and video stills, and its file sizes for animation are an order of magnitude worse than WebP or MP4.
Will my CMYK colour survive the conversion to GIF?
+
It is converted to sRGB, because GIF has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original TIFF rather than the GIF.
Does TIFF to GIF conversion preserve transparency?
+
Transparency survives when GIF is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware GIF instead of GIF=JPG. GIF is CompuServe’s 1987 format, and the only reason it survived is that it animates.
What about EXIF metadata when converting TIFF to GIF?
+
In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the GIF. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert many TIFF files to GIF at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
What resolution will my GIF file have?
+
Default is 1:1 — your GIF keeps the pixel dimensions of the source TIFF. If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize-image/ after conversion, or chain it with the /image-resize/ utility.
Are my TIFF files private during conversion?
+
Yes. Uploaded TIFF files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted GIF are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
