How do I convert GIF to PSD without losing image quality?

Upload your GIF file and the converter applies format-aware quality optimization for PSD. For lossless PSD (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy PSD (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. GIF is lossless but capped at a 256-colour palette per frame, using LZW compression and single-colour binary transparency. A PSD preserves layers, masks, blend modes, smart objects, adjustment layers and editable text as separate live elements.

My GIF is animated — what happens to the other frames?

Only the first frame survives, because PSD is a still format with nowhere to store the rest. If the animation matters, target a format that animates, or convert to a video container instead and keep the motion. PSD is huge, opens properly in almost nothing outside Adobe, and has to be flattened before anyone can view or print it.

Does GIF to PSD conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when PSD is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware PSD instead of PSD=JPG. PSD is Adobe Photoshop’s native document, and it is a working file rather than a delivery format.

What about EXIF metadata when converting GIF to PSD?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the PSD. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.

Can I batch-convert many GIF files to PSD at once?

What resolution will my PSD file have?

Default is 1:1 — your PSD keeps the pixel dimensions of the source GIF. If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize-image/ after conversion, or chain it with the /image-resize/ utility.

Are my GIF files private during conversion?

Yes. Uploaded GIF files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted PSD are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.

Why is my converted PSD bigger or smaller than I expected?

A GIF with strong existing compression (lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to lossless PSD (PNG, TIFF). A lossless GIF often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content — photos compress differently from line art. GIF’s 256-colour ceiling wrecks gradients and video stills, and its file sizes for animation are an order of magnitude worse than WebP or MP4.
