Is the resulting PDF searchable with real selectable text?

Yes when the SVG contains real text (DOCX, ODT, HTML, TXT, EPUB). Image-based SVG produces an image-only PDF; run /pdf-ocr/ afterward to make it text-searchable via optical character recognition. An SVG stores shapes as mathematical paths and text as text, not as pixels, so it is a document rather than a raster grid.
What if the source is a scan with no real text in it?

Then the conversion produces a picture of the text rather than the text itself, and searching it finds nothing. Run /pdf-ocr/ to add a recognised text layer first; optical character recognition turns the scanned pixels into selectable, searchable characters that the conversion can then carry through properly.
How does text inside the SVG behave?

In an SVG, text is real text — selectable, searchable and re-styleable, and it needs the font to be available or embedded to render as intended. Converting away from SVG turns that text into pixels or into document text depending on the target; converting towards SVG only produces real text if the source had a text layer to begin with.
Is the PDF side of this conversion searchable?

It depends entirely on whether real text is present. A PDF generated from a document carries an actual text layer and is searchable; a PDF built from scans or images is a picture of text and is not, until OCR adds a layer. /pdf-ocr/ does that, and it is worth running before any conversion that expects to read the words.
Can I password-protect the PDF after conversion?

Not in this tool directly — convert SVG to PDF first, then use the /pdf-* tools to add a password, watermark, or restrict editing / printing permissions on the output.
Is my SVG file private during PDF conversion?

Yes. Uploaded SVG files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted PDF are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
