How do I convert PDF pages into PSD images?

Upload the PDF file and the converter renders each page as a separate PSD file. By default each page becomes its own image; the result is bundled as a ZIP archive ready to download. PDF is Adobe’s Portable Document Format from 1993, standardised as ISO 32000 and now the universal fixed-layout document. PSD is Adobe Photoshop’s native document, and it is a working file rather than a delivery format.

Does the PSD output support transparency?

The format does, but the source has no alpha to give it — video frames and rendered pages are fully opaque by nature, so every pixel arrives solid. The alpha channel is still useful afterwards: it means you can cut a subject out of the PSD later without changing format again. PSD keeps every editing decision reversible, which is why it is the master format for design work that will be revised.

How big will the PSD files be?

Larger than you might expect, because PSD keeps every pixel exactly rather than approximating. A 1080p still lands around 2-5 MB and a 4K still around 6-15 MB, so a long extraction run adds up quickly. That is the right trade when the images feed further processing, and the wrong one when they are going straight onto a web page. A PSD preserves layers, masks, blend modes, smart objects, adjustment layers and editable text as separate live elements.

Can I convert only part of the PDF instead of all of it?

Yes — the page-range option takes `1-5`, `1,3,5` or `all`, so a single chapter, an appendix or just the cover can be extracted without processing the rest. On a long document that is the difference between a handful of files and several hundred.

Is the PDF side of this conversion searchable?

It depends entirely on whether real text is present. A PDF generated from a document carries an actual text layer and is searchable; a PDF built from scans or images is a picture of text and is not, until OCR adds a layer. /pdf-ocr/ does that, and it is worth running before any conversion that expects to read the words.

Do I get one image per page?

Yes — each page renders as its own PSD file and the set arrives as a ZIP. The page-range option narrows that down when you only want a cover or a single chapter, and setting it to a single page returns one file rather than an archive.

What DPI does the PSD render at?

Default is 150 DPI (good for screen viewing and most print). The advanced options expose 72 (web thumbnail), 150 (default), 300 (print quality), and 600 (high-quality archival). Higher DPI = sharper PSD but larger files.

Can I extract just specific pages of PDF as PSD?

Yes — the page-range option accepts inputs like `1-5`, `1,3,5`, or `all` to pick which pages of the PDF render to PSD. Useful when only a chapter or appendix of a long PDF is needed.

Will the PSD preserve PDF text searchability?

No — rasterizing PDF into PSD turns text into pixels. If you need searchable output, keep the source as PDF and use a text-extraction tool. Image output (PSD) is for visual display, OCR input, or further image processing.

What about transparent backgrounds in the PSD?

PNG PSD preserves a transparent background where the PDF page has no fill (rare). JPG PSD cannot store transparency — pages render onto white. For transparent output target PNG, TIFF, or WebP.

What is the file size of a typical PSD page?

A 150-DPI PSD of an A4 page is 200-800 KB (PNG) or 50-150 KB (JPG quality 85). Multiply by page count to size the bundle — a 100-page PDF to PNG bundle is typically 30-80 MB.
