How do I convert BMP to PSD without losing image quality?

BMP usually stores completely uncompressed pixel rows with a small header, which is why it is so simple to parse. A PSD preserves layers, masks, blend modes, smart objects, adjustment layers and editable text as separate live elements.

Can I get transparency once the image is PSD?

The PSD format supports it, but the conversion cannot invent it. A BMP has no alpha channel, so every pixel including the background arrives fully opaque. Run /image-removebackground/ afterwards to cut the subject out — then the alpha channel PSD provides has something to store. PSD keeps every editing decision reversible, which is why it is the master format for design work that will be revised.

Does BMP to PSD conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when PSD is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware PSD instead of PSD=JPG. PSD is Adobe Photoshop’s native document, and it is a working file rather than a delivery format.

What about EXIF metadata when converting BMP to PSD?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the PSD. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.

Can I batch-convert many BMP files to PSD at once?

What resolution will my PSD file have?

Default is 1:1 — your PSD keeps the pixel dimensions of the source BMP. If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize-image/ after conversion, or chain it with the /image-resize/ utility.

Are my BMP files private during conversion?

Why is my converted PSD bigger or smaller than I expected?

A BMP with strong existing compression (lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to lossless PSD (PNG, TIFF). A lossless BMP often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content — photos compress differently from line art. BMP is gigantic — a 12-megapixel photo is around 36 MB — and no browser treats it as a sane web format. PSD is huge, opens properly in almost nothing outside Adobe, and has to be flattened before anyone can view or print it.
