How do I convert JPEG to BMP without losing image quality?

Upload your JPEG file and the converter applies format-aware quality optimization for BMP. For lossless BMP (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy BMP (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. The bitstream is identical to a .jpg: DCT-based lossy compression, usually with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, wrapped in a JFIF or Exif header. BMP usually stores completely uncompressed pixel rows with a small header, which is why it is so simple to parse.
Does converting JPEG to BMP restore the quality that was lost?

No. The compression artefacts already baked into the JPEG are ordinary pixel data now, and BMP preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. BMP needs no decoder library at all, so it remains the safe interchange format for embedded systems and legacy Windows tooling. JPEG shares every JPG limitation — no alpha, generational loss on re-save — with the added nuisance of software that treats the two extensions differently.
Will my CMYK colour survive the conversion to BMP?

It is converted to sRGB, because BMP has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original JPEG rather than the BMP. BMP is gigantic — a 12-megapixel photo is around 36 MB — and no browser treats it as a sane web format.
Does JPEG to BMP conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when BMP is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware BMP instead of BMP=JPG. BMP is the Windows Bitmap, the raw raster format built into Windows since 1985.
What about EXIF metadata when converting JPEG to BMP?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the BMP. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
