How do I convert DOC to PDF for sharing and printing?

Will the text still reflow to my screen after converting DOC to PDF?

No — this conversion pins the layout. A DOC adapts its line breaks to whatever width and font size the reader is using; the PDF fixes page geometry at conversion time, so on a phone you get the whole page scaled down rather than text rewrapped to the screen. That is the right trade when the layout must not move, and the wrong one when the file is for reading on a small device. DOC is still the format a great many corporate templates, legal precedents and government forms are stored in.
Can I still edit the content after converting DOC to PDF?

Not the way you edit the DOC. The PDF is a delivery format: it fixes the layout so it renders identically everywhere, which is exactly why it resists editing. Keep the DOC as the working copy and regenerate the PDF whenever the content changes — round-tripping back out of PDF always loses something.
Is the older binary Office format still a safe bet?

It opens everywhere, but it is a compatibility choice rather than a good one. The binary formats predate the XML packages, carry macro payloads that many mail servers strip on sight, and are being steadily deprecated by Microsoft itself. Use them when a specific piece of old software demands them, and the XML format otherwise. PDF is deliberately hard to edit, and a scanned PDF contains no text at all until OCR has been run over it.
Will the PDF open directly in a browser?

Yes, and the DOC would not have. Browsers ship a decoder for PDF and none for DOC, so a DOC link forces a download while a PDF renders inline. That is usually the deciding factor when the file is going onto a web page rather than into an application. A PDF looks byte-for-byte identical on every machine and every printer, which is why contracts, invoices and academic papers all live in it.
Will the DOC to PDF conversion keep my fonts and formatting?

Yes for text-bearing DOC (DOCX, ODT, HTML, TXT) — fonts are embedded into the PDF so the output looks identical on every viewer. Image-only DOC (JPG, PNG) is centered on the page; text-layout is N/A there.
Can I merge multiple DOC files into one PDF?

Yes for DOC formats that carry real hyperlink metadata (DOCX, ODT, HTML, EPUB). Image DOC (JPG, PNG, TIFF) has no link metadata to preserve. The PDF uses standard PDF anchor syntax so links work in every modern PDF reader.
Is the resulting PDF searchable with real selectable text?

Yes when the DOC contains real text (DOCX, ODT, HTML, TXT, EPUB). Image-based DOC produces an image-only PDF; run /pdf-ocr/ afterward to make it text-searchable via optical character recognition. A DOC is an OLE compound-file structure, with the document body, formatting and any embedded objects stored as binary streams.
Can I password-protect the PDF after conversion?

Not in this tool directly — convert DOC to PDF first, then use the /pdf-* tools to add a password, watermark, or restrict editing / printing permissions on the output.
How big will the PDF file be?

Depends on the DOC content. A 10-page DOCX with embedded fonts produces a 200-400 KB PDF. A 10-image JPG batch at full resolution produces a 5-20 MB PDF. The advanced "compress images in PDF" toggle recompresses embedded images at JPG quality-85.
