How do I extract the audio from my MOV file as AIFF?

Upload the MOV file and the converter demuxes the audio stream, then transcodes it to AIFF. There is no second video pass — the visual track is discarded immediately so extraction is much faster than a full re-encode. MOV is Apple’s QuickTime container, shipped in 1991 and still the format an iPhone, iPad or Final Cut Pro timeline writes by default. AIFF is Apple’s Audio Interchange File Format from 1988, built on the same IFF chunk design as AVI’s RIFF.
Does converting MOV to AIFF improve the audio quality?

No, and it is worth being blunt: nothing can. The MOV already discarded detail during its original encode, and wrapping what remains in a lossless AIFF preserves exactly that — no more. The file gets several times larger and sounds identical. It is still the right move before editing, because AIFF will not add a second generation of artefacts when you export. AIFF is the studio interchange format on macOS, handles metadata better than plain WAV, and imports into Logic and Pro Tools instantly. MOV files are large, and outside the Apple ecosystem playback support is patchier than MP4 — older Android builds and some Smart TVs will refuse them.
Can I tag the AIFF with artist and album information?

Yes, and it is a genuine gain over MOV, which has nowhere dependable to store any of it. AIFF carries title, artist, album, year, track number and embedded cover art in the container itself, so a music library files it correctly without a manual pass.
Will the AIFF play in my car or on older hardware?

Often not. MOV is decoded by essentially everything, including car head units and elderly players; AIFF needs software that knows the codec, which standalone hardware frequently does not have. If the destination is a car stereo or a portable player, that is a strong argument for staying on MOV. AIFF is as large as WAV with worse support outside the Apple world, so it is a poor choice for distribution.
What audio bitrate does the extracted AIFF use?

Default bitrate for lossy AIFF is 192 kbps, which is transparent for music. You can override to 320 kbps (audiophile) or 96-128 kbps (voice / podcast / smaller file). The bitrate dropdown is exposed in the advanced options before you click convert.
Will I lose audio quality going from MOV to AIFF?

If AIFF is lossless (WAV, FLAC), every sample is preserved exactly. If AIFF is lossy (MP3, AAC, OGG, Opus), the AIFF codec recompresses the source audio — at 192 kbps the result is transparent for almost all content. Going lossy → lossless never recovers detail already discarded. AIFF stores uncompressed big-endian PCM — the Apple-side equivalent of WAV, with the same bit-for-bit fidelity.
Does the AIFF audio keep the original sample rate?

By default yes — 48 kHz audio in your MOV stays 48 kHz in the AIFF output. For CD-burning or legacy player compatibility you can downsample to 44.1 kHz via the sample-rate dropdown; the resampler is high-quality SoX-grade.
