Why convert between MD and TXT when they are the same kind of file?

Because the file has to open on the other end, and version and vendor differences decide whether it will. Two formats in the same family can still be years apart in what software reads them, how large they are on disk, and which features they carry. The conversion normalises the file onto whichever one the recipient actually supports. What if the TXT download does not start automatically?

Disable any pop-up blocker, then click the download button manually. The result link stays active for 24 hours, so if your network drops mid-download you can retry from the result page without re-uploading the MD.
How long does MD to TXT conversion take?

It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame. Plain text is the most durable format there is: it will still be readable when every proprietary format of this decade is unopenable. TXT carries no styling, no images, no tables and no page structure, so any layout in the source is discarded permanently.
