How do I extract the audio from my WebM file as WMA?

Upload the WebM file and the converter demuxes the audio stream, then transcodes it to WMA. There is no second video pass — the visual track is discarded immediately so extraction is much faster than a full re-encode. WebM is a strict subset of Matroska that Google published in 2010 specifically to give HTML5 video a royalty-free container. WMA is Windows Media Audio, Microsoft’s answer to MP3, launched in 1999 and bundled with every Windows install of that era.
Is converting WebM to WMA a second round of lossy compression?

Yes, and it is worth planning around. Both formats are lossy, so the WMA encoder is working from audio that has already been through one psychoacoustic pass, and its own decisions compound the first set. At 192 kbps or above the result is still transparent for most listening. If you have a lossless master anywhere, encoding the WMA from that instead avoids the double pass entirely. WebM is deliberately narrow: VP8 or VP9 video (AV1 more recently) with Vorbis or Opus audio, and nothing else. WMA is lossy by default, in an ASF container, with lossless and voice-optimised variants that are rarely encountered.
Can I tag the WMA with artist and album information?

Yes, and it is a genuine gain over WebM, which has nowhere dependable to store any of it. WMA carries title, artist, album, year, track number and embedded cover art in the container itself, so a music library files it correctly without a manual pass. WMA compressed better than contemporary MP3 encoders and remains readable by Windows Media Player and old PlaysForSure devices.
Will the WMA play in my car or on older hardware?

Often not. WebM is decoded by essentially everything, including car head units and elderly players; WMA needs software that knows the codec, which standalone hardware frequently does not have. If the destination is a car stereo or a portable player, that is a strong argument for staying on WebM. WMA is unsupported almost everywhere outside Windows, and older WMA files may carry DRM that blocks conversion entirely.
What audio bitrate does the extracted WMA use?

Default bitrate for lossy WMA is 192 kbps, which is transparent for music. You can override to 320 kbps (audiophile) or 96-128 kbps (voice / podcast / smaller file). The bitrate dropdown is exposed in the advanced options before you click convert.
Will I lose audio quality going from WebM to WMA?

If WMA is lossless (WAV, FLAC), every sample is preserved exactly. If WMA is lossy (MP3, AAC, OGG, Opus), the WMA codec recompresses the source audio — at 192 kbps the result is transparent for almost all content. Going lossy → lossless never recovers detail already discarded.
Does the WMA audio keep the original sample rate?

By default yes — 48 kHz audio in your WebM stays 48 kHz in the WMA output. For CD-burning or legacy player compatibility you can downsample to 44.1 kHz via the sample-rate dropdown; the resampler is high-quality SoX-grade.
